More confusion surrounds the concept of FSC certification than any other current environmental issue, relevant to paper and print.
This should not be the case. Remember these points:
It is a forestry management scheme and fibre tracking mechanism.
It is the most stringent forestry management scheme in social and environmental terms.
It can, and does, verify the source of recycled fibre.
FSC certification is nothing at all to do with day to day environmental performance.
Holding FSC certification does not mean that a printing company purchases only certified materials.
The use of FSC certified virgin fibre is not the best material choice from an environmental point of view. It is the best choice when virgin fibre has to be used.
