Estimates vary as to the number of printing companies in the UK; however, there are certainly at least 10,000. What is clear is that less than 200 have invested resources in reducing their environmental impact over and above the legal requirements. PPE does not feature companies that claim to be environmentally progressive, it features only companies that are environmentally accredited. Schemes exist for companies of all sizes.
All the companies featured are reducing their environmental impact. Some have recently gained their first accreditation, others have been active in this area for longer and have, therefore, made more progress.
How to use the printfinder
Use the search function to identify an appropriate printing company for your project. Click on company names to reveal in-depth information and contact details. Use the email link to make contact with your chosen companies.
Important reminder
FSC and PEFC certification schemes are nothing to do with day-to-day environmental performance; they are for fibre tracking purposes only.
Confirmation of PPE entry requirements for printing companies and funding
In order to be featured a printing company must be appropriately (according to size) environmentally-accredited. This will usually mean ISO 14001 and, in addition, this must be gained via a UKAS regulated auditor.
PPE is not a free resource funded by Friends of the Earth and/or Greenpeace. It is, via an annual charge, funded by the featured companies.
