      • Recovery and Recycling
      • Waste stream separation
      • Cost reduction
      • Time
    • Saving on resources & safer materials
      • Reducing aromatics in chemicals
      • Improving CVP’s
      • Encouraging switch to Iris Digital from cromalin/wet proofing
      • Encouraging use of data rather than film
  2. Involving suppliers
  3. Conducting & documenting Aspects & Impacts survey and setting Objectives & Targets.
  4. Currently EMS, QMS and H&S are operated as integrated systems

Specific Departmental Examples
  • Pre-press
    1. We operate Computer to Plate technology avoiding the need for chemical usage
    2. Our plates are all recycled, refer to points 1,2 & 3 above.
  • Printing
    1. Our policy is to recommend part-recycled or virgin stock from FSC -certified sources; we are a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accredited printer.
    2. Poorer quality papers and/or papers with very high recycled content can lead to higher waste levels.
    3. Overall waste % will vary depending upon the complexities of the job. We currently operate QTMS on all webs which monitor waste, running speeds etc and each web has its targets and charts for reference. Typically this is between 4% and 8% overall depending upon job & press and has shown a steady downward trend since we commenced the monitoring program.
    4. Make ready uses an average of around 5,000 sheets.
    5. Inks are solvent free using a mix of vegetable oils and high boiling point petroleum distillates.
    6. Our web founts are alcohol free. Sheetfed is at 6% alcohol.
    7. Improvement teams, value for money calculations on paper types (not just cost), target setting, improved maintenance.
  • Packaging
    1. Cartons are from recycled board.
    2. End boards from logging reused if returned.
    3. Special multi-trip internal pallets
    4. Reel transit packaging re-used for pallet transit packaging
    5. Top boards from furniture manufactures waste board
    6. Arrangements with some clients to recover & reuse
  • Waste
    1. White paper waste recycled separately
    2. All printed paper waste collected for shredding, compacting and recycling
    3. All waste chemicals & inks collected in IBC’s for use in incineration
    4. Used printers cloths returned for solvent recovery, cleaned and re-use
    5. Waste stream separation
    6. Recycling of plates, film.
    7. Air emissions of VOC’s from webs controlled by state-of-the-art regenerative, Voxidiser. Emissions are considerably lower than legislative requirements.

NB
